Description:
Students can have their classroom writing projects turned into books.

Duties:
The duties are varied. Some volunteers come to school to interview the authors and work out the details, design covers, etc. Others type the stories from home (great for those who want to help but cannot come to school). Binders come to school to assemble the finished books after they are illustrated.

Time needed:
Interviewer: 2 hrs/ twice a month.
Typist: Two stories every other week. Time to type depends on length.
Binder: Usually 3-4 hours per month.
Coordinator: 3-4 hours each week.

Characteristics/skills needed:
Computer skills--Can use a computer to organize a project.
Creativity--Ability to develop new and interesting ideas.
Dependability--Can be counted on to complete tasks.
Flexibility--Can work with all kinds of people and adjust to changes in a plan.
Mechanical Skills--Good with tools and using one's hands.
Organization--Can make a logical order out of many competing interests.
Secretarial skills--Keeps track of records, events, and meetings.

Helpful tools:
Home computer. Also, school needs to have a binding system.

Lifespan of committee:
Throughout school year

Personal benefits:
Seeing how excited the students are to have their work published.

Involving the kids:
Authors are recognized by the principal who delivers the finished book to the classroom.
