Description:
The Committee chooses a theme and runs a 2-3 week campaign recruiting members; may involve contest or competition between grades/classrooms/students.
Duties:
Develop and execute a creative theme.Develop flyers to communicate goal to parents and teachers. Keep a record of new members. Keep a tally of each grade/classroom's numbers. Develop a working membership list after drive concludes. Act as treasurer for incoming money, to keep track of and deposit regularly, or to pass along to organization's treasurer.
Time needed:
May involve several meetings to develop a theme and work plan.For the 2-3 weeks of the drive, committee members may need to be at school several days a week to collect membership cards, tally class totals, and keep track of the contest. May involve developing and maintaining a membership list.
Characteristics/skills needed:
Creativity--Ability to develop new and interesting ideas.
Organization--Can make a logical order out of many competing interests.
Helpful tools:
Bulletin Board materials (constructions paper, scissors, glue, staple gun, borders)Computer to develop flyers and to keep a current membership list Copy machine

In most cases, 2-3 weeks.

You may come in contact with many teachers and office staff; you become familiar with other parents' names; this is a chance to use your creativity!
Involving the kids:
Depending on their ages, kids can:Help with executing the creative theme (need cut-outs for a bulletin board?). Help with any of the counting and tallying work. Help with reading member information off the card as you develop a membership list.
Other comments or suggestions:
While most membership drives last 2-3 weeks, general membership should remain open throughout the school year. The membership chairman may be required to add an occasional new member to the list anytime during the school year, and should insure the school office is supplied with membership forms.
