Description:
Parents devoted to the standards of safety in a school.

Duties:
Work closely with principal and staff.
Let the parents know about the committee and how to contact it if a safety issue presents itself.
Poll the parents and staff to help determine if there are safety areas that need attention.
Run a safety suggestion program for children and parents to enter. Provide a suggestion box. Advertise the program. If a suggestion is used, give a prize to the person. Encourage participation.
Be available to implement necessary changes or repairs to bring about the change for a safer school.
Make safety posters.

Time needed:
Monthly meetings to take approximately 2 hours.
Actual work time to implement may vary.

Characteristics/skills needed:
Creativity--Ability to develop new and interesting ideas.
Mechanical Skills--Good with tools and using one's hands.
Money skills--Uses money judiciously and can stay within a budget.
Organization--Can make a logical order out of many competing interests.

Helpful tools:
Mechanical tools (hardware, woodworking tools)
Computer

Lifespan of committee:
Entire school year.

Personal benefits:
Social interaction.

Involving the kids:
Have them participate in a safety suggestion program.
