Size range:
Medium: 20-30 inches; 25-45 pounds.
Kid-tolerance scale:
Excellent
Average lifespan:
10 to 15 years
Overall behavior of breed:
Tibetans LOVE people!!! They were originally bred in Tibet to keep the monks company. And boy do they. They love to run, fetch a ball, take walks and just curl up beside you as you watch TV. I consider them great company. Their fur resembles that of an English Sheep dog, very long and wavy, so they do require a lot of grooming; but they love the attention. They are "allergy free" since their fur is like hair.
Explain why this breed was good/not good with your kids:
Tibetans love to play. They are very good natured and tolerate a lot.
Typical colors:
Black and white or tan/brown and white.
Does this breed shed?
No
Special grooming needs:
Tibetans naturally have long fur. I prefer to keep my dog's fur long, but it does require routine brushing, which she loves. If you don't want the extra grooming work, you will have to bring her to the groomer.
Daily exercise requirements:
Tibetans love to run, take brisk walks, fetch balls. We very often play ball in the house with a tennis ball.
