4 Star Dog Breed Rating

Size range:
Small: 10-20 inches; 15-30 pounds.

Kid-tolerance scale:
Very Good

Average lifespan:
12-16 yrs.

Overall behavior of breed:
Self-Sufficient, Playful, Loving, and Tolerating. They are noted as "People Dogs." They love other dogs, big or small ones.

Explain why this breed was good/not good with your kids:
We have a handicapped daughter. We have owned two of these dogs and found them to be excellent with our daughter. They are lap dogs, and love people to give them attention. But most of all, Daisy tolerates my daughter and they are found to be protective of their owners. They are easy to housebreak, too. My daughters would be lost without our Daisy. She has been a blessing to our family.

Typical colors:
Gold/White or vice versa
Black/White or vice versa
Black
White
Red/White
Silver/White

Does this breed shed?
No

Special grooming needs:
Depending on owner - may let hair grow. Needs brushing every day.
We have our dog puppy clipped and she does not need brushing every day. We have her groomed every 6-8 weeks. She gets a bath in between grooming.

Daily exercise requirements:
A brisk walk around the block will provide sufficient exercise for an adult Shih Tzu. Shih Tzus are not basically outdoor dogs and should spend most of their time in the house.

Other comments or suggestions
They are very good dogs to have should there be any allergies within the household.
