Overall behavior of breed:
Akitas look like warm and fuzzy cuddily dogs, but most are not. Obedience training is a must and socialization with a lot of people is recommended. Some get along with children if introduced to them at an early age and some do not.

Explain why this breed was good/not good with your kids:
Akitas can get along well with children if they grow up together. Introducing a child later on to an Akita can sometimes make family life very difficult.

Typical colors:
black, brown, red, cream, and variations of all

Does this breed shed?
Yes

Special grooming needs:
The Akita needs weekly brushings.

Daily exercise requirements:
Akitas need just a few long walks each day and some play time in a secured area.

Other comments or suggestions
The Akita can be aggressive (toward other dogs and people they donĘt know) and is not a good choice for inexperienced dog owners.
ItĘs important to get your Akita from a reputable breeder.

Health concerns for Akita include hyperthyroidism, pemphigus foliaceous (an autoimmune skin disease causing ulcers and scabs to develop on the skin), and hip and elbow dysplasia.
