Overall behavior of breed:
Mostly a companion dog, but also used as a hunting dog for small game, Jack Russell Terriers are excitable, cheerful, loyal, and devoted. They are much better suited to life in suburbia than a city apartment. Obedience training as well as exposure to children must start early because these dogs are easily distracted by surrounding activities and scents. They can be a little protective of their toys and food bowls.
