Extremely friendly and not at all prone to bite, although one should keep in mind as with ALL pets that, "if it has teeth, it CAN bite". Shih Tzus will bark at the doorbell or the occasional passerby, but are not "yappy" and are easily taught to settle.

Not fearful of children yet not agressively active, either.Playful and intelligent, Shih Tzus love everyone- don't count on them to guard the silver!They usually get along well with cats.

Special grooming needs:
Shih Tzus have a double coat- daily brushing is a must. In the Spring, when they lose their winter coats, most people find it easier to have them cut short.

A romp or 2 around the yard, with or without a playmate.

These little dogs are power chewers- have lots of toys available. They can be taught to chase and retrieve balls, soft frisbees and sticks.
