Size range:
Extra Large: 40 inches and up; 65 pounds and up.

Kid-tolerance scale:
Very Good

Overall behavior of breed:
Very loving and dedicated to the family. They love to run and play and are relatively easy to train. They are eager to please, but can take over if not handled properly by the owner.

Explain why this breed was good/not good with your kids:
This breed is great with my children. They are best suited to older children 5 years old and up. They can easily knock over a small child while playing as they are quite large.

Typical colors:
The typical colors are black and tan, tawny and red.

Does this breed shed?
Yes

Special grooming needs:
Our dogs are kept outside so their natural oils and regular brushing keep the coats shiny. Proper feeding is necessary as well. The only area that needs special attention is the ears. They should be cleaned once a week.

Daily exercise requirements:
For bloodhounds to maintain proper weight and vitality they need daily excercise, usually running and trailing, which they readily find in a yard of adequate size. Our dogs roam an approximate 2 acre area.

Other comments or suggestions
If you plan to get a bloodhound, go to a breeder that can show you the parents and also do a little research on the breed to see if it fits your needs.
