Description:
Good behavior should be rewarded. Whether youÆre playing on a team at home or at school, the end of the season should include a trophy ceremony for ôthe best display of good sportsmanship.ö

Actually seeing rewards for good behavior not only reinforces it in the person who was good, but encourages others players to follow suit. Award the player who was the best sport on the team. Make a big deal out of it. During the award ceremony, give examples of what that award winner did during the season to earn his or her trophy. Encourage other players to take on the challenge to compete for the award next season or game. And remember, there doesnÆt have to be just one winner.

Appropriate age group(s):
Preschool and Younger
Elementary School
Middle School

Other comments or suggestions:
By the way, trophies, plaques or medals donÆt have to be expensive and are available at most local trophy or sport stores.
