Cost: minimal (usually under $15.00 for all doors)
Description:
It is a tradition at our school to have each teacher's door decorated with a large sign that greets them on the first morning of Teacher Appreciation Week. We get 1 volunteer from each class to decorate their child's teacher's door. The decorations are based around themes chosen by the volunteer. Things that have been done include an outer space theme (You're out of this world!), a flower garden (Thanks for helping us learn and grow), a variety of hats (Hats off to a great teacher), etc.
Preparation:
It is necessary to begin finding volunteers at least a month prior to Teacher Appreciation Week. It is fun to have a brainstorming session to come up with themes and decorating ideas. Our principal lets us use large piece of "bulletin board" paper, both to cover the doors and to make the items to decorate them with. Our PTA provides tape and extra pairs of hands to hang the signs. We give the volunteers the choice of making their signs at home or at the school on the Friday afternoon before Teacher Appreciation Week.
Other comments or suggestions:
We have found it helpful to make arrangements to have the school opened the Friday afternoon and evening before Teacher Appreciation Week so that our volunteers can put up their signs when the teachers are not around. Sometimes, we have to arrange for an early opening of the school on the Monday of Teacher Appreciation Week for those who work afternoons, evenings or nights to be able to do so.
