Appropriate age group(s):

Elementary School

Time needed:
Weekend

Description:
This is a Literary theme, based on the Book, "The Little Prince." They say that connecting books to things in their environment helps kids to read sooner. And Winnie the Pooh is so over-done.

Materials:
Airplane bed
Airplane that hangs from the ceiling
Large cut-outs of Little Prince scenes that you make
The book, "The Little Prince"
A globe
Stuffed animals: a snake, a fox, a rose
Other toys that reflect characters from The Little Prince, like a toolbox or an art kit
Glowing stars and planets to stick on the ceiling
Little Prince theme stuff, you can pick it up on your next trip to Paris. They have lunchboxes, calendars, posters, toys....

Instructions:
1. Use your artistic skill to make large cardboard cut-outs of scenes from "The Little Prince" to decorate walls.

2. It would be interesting to have the backdrop of the walls have a faint outline of a map of the world, or of northern Africa, with little dotted lines to describe plane trips.

3. Hook up the airplane on the ceiling, and the moon and stars.

4. Add other books and toys that relate to the Little Prince and tweak your child's interest: Planes, Travel, Space, Art...
