4 Star Idea Rating

Appropriate age group(s):
Preschool and Younger
Elementary School

Time needed:
Half day

Description:
I wanted a border around my 3 1/2 year old's room but shuddered at the thought of wallpaper paste. Instead, we used a swirl stamp in three colors to stamp our own border in about three hours. My daughter even helped by spreading the paint onto the stamp!

Materials:
Chunky stamp(s), available at most craft stores like Michaels or Ben Franklin (they come in all kinds of shapes - flowers, cars, animals, etc.); acrylic paints; sponge applicator; paper cups; masking tape and tape measure.

Instructions:
Mark all along the wall with masking tape where you would like your border. Mark intervals on the tape where each stamp should be. Squeeze some paint into the paper cups, then blot it onto the stamp with the applicator. Smooth out any excess paint and carefully stamp onto the wall, being sure not to shift the stamp. Press firmly to make sure the whole stamp meets the wall. Remove by pulling straight away from the wall. Repeat around the room using one or more colors. (Finish all of one color first so that you don't have to wash the stamp too often!)
