Description:
My son's first grade class made this today at school, then we made it at home...my fingers R still frozen!
(The teacher recommends wearing a pair of gloves during the shaking phase; if those are boxed up for summer, try a clean sock on each hand ;-)
Put 1/4 tsp. vanilla, 1 Tbsp. sugar, and 1/2 c. milk into a ziploc bag (sandwich size is OK), and seal shut.
Fill a 1 gallon zipper-lock bag about 1/3 full of ice (about 2 trays full!). Add 6 Tbsp. of table salt.
Put the smaller bag inside the larger bag; seal shut.
Shake until the mixture is ice cream, about 5 minutes.
Wipe the top of small bag. Open, and enjoy your ice cream.
Other comments or suggestions:
If you have chocolate milk on hand, omit the sugar and vanilla.
I know there's another crazy way to make ice cream, but I'll find that and hopefully add it later. This is the individual Mad Scientist way, I guess. Holding in the hands is way memorable!!! I did re-use the Ice/Salt bag once, but it gets messier after the first use, either from small leaks, or "sweating" as the ice melting accelerates.
