3 Star Suggestion Rating

Estimated Time:
1 hour.

Materials:
Paper
Pencil
Dictionary
A copy of The Declaration of Independence

Instructions:
1. As a family discuss what it means to have independence and freedom in our lives.
2. Look these words up in a dictionary.
3. Take turns reading the Declaration of Independence to each other.
4. Ask each child to think about what these words mean.
5. Have them create an idea that would bring more independence and freedom to the family.
6. Kids can think of ways that they can start doing something on their own (e.g. making their bed, doing the dishes, taking out the garbage, not arguing with siblings).
7. They can write the ideas out and proclaim them at a family meeting.
8. You gain more freedom as your children gain their independence.
9. Take this free time to rejuvenate.
10. With the refreshed energy, spend quality time as a group.
