Description of support system:
We all want what's best for our children. If a tutor can help our kids in a particularly weak subject area, then so be it.

How it works:
Here are some things you need to know before you hire a tutor. Look for a teacher or a college student going through teacher preparation, in other words, a well-trained professional. Schools keep lists of teachers who also tutor. Get recommendations from other parents as well as your child's teacher.
Stay on top of your child's progress. A tutor should attend conferences at the child's school if he/she is able, and should be able to explain any difficulties the child may have to the school or teacher. You'll know if the tutor is working out well based on the feedback from your child's teacher. Tutoring doesn't always mean that you'll see a drastic improvement in grades, but you should start to see your child feeling more successful and his/her general attitude toward school should start to improve.
