Description of technique:
Begin breastfeeding as soon as possible after delivery. The colostrum your breasts produce before your milk comes in is packed with nutrients and substances to protect your baby's health. It's not only healthy for your baby to begin nursing early on, it's often easier for them to learn how to suck during the first few hours after birth when they are more alert. Babies have a keen sense of smell and are also comforted by their mother's scent.

You may think that there is no way you'll be in the mood or physically ready to try breastfeeding after you're just gone through the marathon of the labor and birthing process. Although both mother and baby will no doubt be exhausted, this is a wonderful opportunity for the two of you to bond. You may feel more comfortable with breastfeeding after experiencing the special feeling of closeness that nursing fosters between you and your baby.
