Appropriate age: Preschool and Younger
Description of technique:
Take an active role in your childĘs education by inquiring how his or her day went. Your childĘs teacher will be happy to tell you stories of how your childĘs day progressed, things both good and bad. You will be able to get a lot more information from the teacher than your child. This insight opens up the door for great conversations between you and your child on your way home from school.
Instructions:
1. Each day when you pick your child up from school, take a few minutes to talk with the teacher to find out about your childĘs day.
2. You will gain a deeper respect and friendship with the teacher because you are genuinely interested in your childĘs learning experience.
3. You will gain respect from your child because he or she sees how much you care.
4. You will have more fun things to talk about on your way home from school.
5. You will develop a deeper bond with your child knowing that he or she can talk to you about anything.
6. If problems do arise, you have a mechanism set in place for you and your child to have open conversations about whatever is going on.
7. Together you can create solutions for whatever needs to change, and celebrate everything that works!
