Every child should meet his or her teacher before school begins. Arrange with your childÆs teacher for a home visit. Home visits serve as a ôget to know you session.ö It is important for the teacher and your child to know a few things about each other before school begins. Your childÆs teacher will be able to use this valuable information in helping to make your childÆs transition to school easier.
Instructions:
1. Schedule an appointment with your childÆs new teacher for a home visit.
2. Make sure that you clear a few hours of that day just for the visit.
3. Talk to your child about his or her new teacher.
4. Tell him or her the teacherÆs name.
5. Mention that the teacher will be coming for a visit.
6. Prepare a special treat together such as cookies or sandwiches.
7. Make sure that the teacher sees your childÆs room.
8. The teacher should spend some time there learning about your child, e.g., have your child show the teacher his or her favorite toys and books.
9. The teacher should leave the visit with a better understanding of your child.
10. All of this should help to make the transition to school more comfortable and safe.
