3 Star Technique Rating

Recommended age for technique:
Toddlers to 12 year olds

Description of technique:
My 5 and 9 year olds would fuss about going to bed we decided to give them a reward if they went to bed without fuss. We gave them the reward on the weekend.

I asked them once, "What would you like for a reward?"

They said they missed being treated like babies.

Then we made a deal, if they went to bed without a fuss for the whole week, then on Saturday they could be treated like babies all day and all night. If they were especially good about going to bed, then all day and night on Sunday except at church.

Other comments or suggestions:
Let them choose the rewards. That makes them feel like they're opinion counts. That way they don't feel preasured to please you. They'll get the reward they want.
