Appropriate grades or age groups:
Preschool and Younger
Elementary School
Middle School
High School & Beyond

Estimated time to complete activity or implement technique:
Few minutes to a few hours

Materials needed (if applicable):
Reader's Digest magazines and Make-your-own adventure books

Activity set-up/instructions or description of technique:
My kids never let me get the new Reader's Digest magazines. They'd hide them in the closet until time to take a trip -- even to the mall. Then they'd take turns reading the jokes and then the short stories. A great way to keep 2 boys from fussing with each other. The adventure books were great because we'd argue about which "path" or "choice" to make; we'd mark each place we disagreed, and then go back to that point and go forward again. Interesting way to learn how decisions are made!

Other suggestions or comments:
Very much recommend these two ideas. Helps kids get confident in reading aloud and comprehending what they're reading, and makes the miles just zip on by.
