Appropriate grades or age groups:
Preschool and Younger
Elementary School
Middle School

Estimated time to complete activity or implement technique:
30 minutes a day or more

Materials needed (if applicable):
library
books, magazines
time to read with them and find out likes and dislikes.

Activity set-up/instructions or description of technique:
We like reading novels as a family. A chapter or more per day. Robinson Crusoe, Captain's Courageous, Little Women, Jo's Boys, Island of the Blue Dolphin. Good books.

Other suggestions or comments:
1-Read to them beginning at 6 months, 2-Take Lots of Trips to the Library, 3-Make Available Lots of Magazines and Books in Wide Fields of Interest--history, Biography, Humor, Mystery, Sports, Pets.
Make it interesting. Use different voices to read different parts. Impart excitement to exciting parts, a soft voice for scary things, etc.
