Appropriate grades or age groups:

Elementary School

Estimated time to complete activity or implement technique:
5 mins - 2 hours

Materials needed (if applicable):
books, books, & more books!
Anything your child is interested in!

Activity set-up/instructions or description of technique:
Don't let your child's age discourage you from books. Don't ever think 'Oh, that's too hard for my child'. As a teacher, I have literally hundreds of books of all ability levels. My son had a favorite author, Eric Carle, when he was 2! I pick up dinosaur books for him, one is over 50 pages long! Of course he can't read a word of it yet, but he loves the pictures! If some of the text is too long, I paraphrase! Right now, he is four, and he loves Magic School Bus! Follow what your child like, and find books on those subjects. Don't worry about the text, especially if it has great pictures! Your child will outgrow baby books, but they can grow into books above their level.

Other suggestions or comments:
If your child doesn't seem interested, don't give up! There's lots of books out there!
