Appropriate grades or age groups:
Preschool and Younger
Elementary School

Estimated time to complete activity or implement technique:
Usually an hour (no more)

Materials needed (if applicable):
Each person picks the book or books they want to read.

Activity set-up/instructions or description of technique:
We designate a night as family reading night and everyone sits together with a book of their choice to read. We have popcorn and snacks and we share what it is about our personal book we like. We then each read our own book. For our youngest (who is not reading on her own yet) we trade her around at 10 minute intervals with each of us reading to her. This is great because she loves to hear the different ways a book can be read. And we all get to enjoy some quiet time with our favorite book!

Other suggestions or comments:
Teach your children by example that reading is fun and that the greatest reward is the story itself.
