about five to ten minutes

Materials needed (if applicable):
magnetic alphabet letters

Activity set-up/instructions or description of technique:
Set up letters on refrigerator.Start by having child group the first five letters of alphabet,adding one additional group of letters until alphabet is learned.Then begin with learning a vocabulary word a day, and graduate by placing words in simple sentences. Be sure to praise and reward after each practice.

These early steps made learning to read fun for both me and my sons. Both were reading by age three.
