Tips to Get Kids to Read

Appropriate grades or age groups:
Preschool and Younger
Elementary School
Middle School

Estimated time to complete activity or implement technique:
This could be a summer project

Materials needed (if applicable):
Large piece of drawing paper, markers, and a ruler.

Activity set-up/instructions or description of technique:
Have each child lay down on a piece of paper and trace around their body. Next, use the ruler to make horizontal lines 1" apart all the way from the feet to the head. Every time a reader finishes a book they get to add the title to a line, beginning at the bottom and working their way up.

Other suggestions or comments:
Let the kids give a "star" rating to each book. offer a reward at the end of the project such as a gift certificate to a book store.
