books
handmade chart (they create)
rewards(either computer time or free playtime or having a friend visit,etc.)

Activity set-up/instructions or description of technique:
write book on chart.
read book
have them tell summary of book and sign chart.

Other suggestions or comments:
We have a good time doing this it does not cost money. The kids get to earn something they really enjoy doing above and beyond their normal activities.
