Appropriate grades or age groups:
Preschool and Younger
Elementary School

Estimated time to complete activity or implement technique:
5 minutes or less

Materials needed (if applicable):
Pad of paper
Pencil

Activity set-up/instructions or description of technique:
First select a subject for the words. If you are in a zoo a good subject would be animals, or you could use flowers, colors, or even made-up words. On the left-hand side of the paper write your childs name vertically. For each letter of the child's name have him think of a subject word that begins with each letter. Write it on the paper. For example using animals as the subject Robert could be Rhino, Ostrich, Beaver, Elephant, Racoon, Turtle. Repeat for each child. You could get really silly and have the child act out the animals.

Other suggestions or comments:
Keep the subjects simple and familiar for younger kids. For older kids you could challenge them to come up with as many different words for each letter of their name as they can think of.
