Tips to Get Kids to Read

Preschool and Younger
Elementary School
Middle School
High School & Beyond

Estimated time to complete activity or implement technique:
10 min. - 1 hr. - depends on age and outing

Materials needed (if applicable):
Books selected to prepare kids for a trip or visit to museum, art show, farm, aquarium, etc.

Activity set-up/instructions or description of technique:
Once you've planned a family outing, visit the local library to find non-fiction books to get kids in the mood. They'll find books about animals, art, history, etc. that will generate enthusiasm, plus let them see how useful and fun non-fiction reading can be. It will make the trip more fun and informative.
