Appropriate grades or age groups:
Preschool and Younger
Elementary School
Middle School
High School & Beyond

Estimated time to complete activity or implement technique:
1hr/week plus 15-30 min./nite/kid

Materials needed (if applicable):
Library card

Activity set-up/instructions or description of technique:
1. Get to know your local library by the time your kids are 2 months old. If the library isn't your style, try a local used book store, or one of the mega or discount book stores.
2. Take out or buy books! Then read them! Don't limit how long(or how many times for the younger crowd)...the sky is the limit.
3. Read aloud every night with your children from a couple months old on. Don't stop. Even when they can read! Let them read to you, take turns, even lie next to them each of you reading your own book before bed if they get "too big for that." NEVER have we been turned down to read aloud before bed.
4. The skies the limit at the library. Let them take out as many books as they want even if it seems excessive. It is common for us to leave with 25 books for a week (and we usually read them all).
5. When you read aloud, read above their age/reading level. They can listen at a higher level and this builds attention span and models good style.
6. READ, read, ReaD!
