Estimated time to complete activity or implement technique:
An hour or more

Materials needed (if applicable):
Squares of fabric, art supplies (crayons, paint, markers...),decorative materials, books, needle, and thread

Activity set-up/instructions or description of technique:
In this activity kids transform characters from books into stars in other art forms:

Using books as themes, have the children draw, paint, sculpt, or write songs about their favorite characters. Ask them to make a mural depicting scenes from their favorite books.

On a square of the fabric, ask each child to draw a scene from his or her favorite book. Crayons, pencils, and magic markers all work well. Decorate the squares with scraps of fabric, buttons, lace, etc. Then sew the squares together to form a "story" quilt.
