Appropriate grades or age groups:
Preschool and Younger
Elementary School

Estimated time to complete activity or implement technique:
10-15 minutes (but they'll want longer)

Materials needed (if applicable):
flash card words (preferrably handmade with your child's help)

Activity set-up/instructions or description of technique:
Your child stays in one room while you hide a set number of cards around in other rooms. When they find the card, if they can read it, they can keep it. If they can't read it, then the hider gets to keep it. At the end they count up their cards for points to see how many each of them has. Obviously, the goal is for your child to have the most cards in their hand.

Other suggestions or comments:
At first I don't count my cards at all...I just count my son's cards and praise him for getting however many right!
