Appropriate grades or age groups:
Preschool and Younger
Elementary School

Estimated time to complete activity or implement technique:
5-10 minutes

Materials needed (if applicable):
Paper and pencil

Activity set-up/instructions or description of technique:
After doing some frequently used sight words on flash cards, I write short sentences using as many of them as possible and my son tries to read them back. For every word he gets correct he gets to scribble them out but for the ones that he doesn't get yet, he circles them and we go over them together using sounding out techniques. He loves scribbling out words, especially when he sees that there are none left in the sentence after!
