Description of lunch box recipe:
The child either transports milk in an aseptic "brick pak", an insulated container, or buys it at school. Don't forget the spoon!
Directions:
Put the cereal into a bowl with a tight-fitting lid. Allow some room for the milk to fill the bowl later. If sugar is needed, add it to separately packaged fruit slices, or sprinkle it on the dry flakes beforehand.
Other suggestions and comments:
Bananas, blueberries, and strawberries can make this more of a treat. Banana will darken on exposure to air; the child would need to be able to slice it with a plastic knife.
(Ordinarily I'd add Tang or lemon juice to cut fruit, but in this case, it might curdle the milk!)
My oldest child took so much time to eat lunch that if we'd made her wait in a cafeteria line, she'd have starved to death. When you've made every kind of sandwich known to man, sometimes you can fall back on stuff even more basic and simple. The only challenge is containers and stuffin' it all in their special lunch box/bag. The new reusable/disposable containers now on the market are making this a little easier.
One of my Cheap Mom strategies for dealing with the box of sugar-coated cereal I bought (in a moment of weakness) is to put a couple handfuls of it into a snack-sized plastic zip bag, instead of cookies or other "goodie." These are good for lunch boxes, or "hold yer horses, we're nearly home!!!" car food.
