Description of stress-relief technique for busy parents:
The biggest mistake parents make after they have kids is to neglect themselves or their relationship. The greatest gift you can give to your kids is to be the best parent and spouse. The only way you'll be able to do that is to still have some time for yourselves and each other. In order to accomplish this, you need to hire a good babysitter.
Recommendations from neighbors, your church or school are good places to start looking for babysitters. And if all else fails, you can place an ad in the local paper. Once you have several potential candidates, you and your husband should conduct an interview. The interview should be done at your house so that you can see immediately how the babysitter interacts with your child.
You should ask questions about education, child-care training and experience. Find out who she's worked for in the past, and get the employers' names, addresses and phone numbers for references and check them. Ask how she'd handle certain situations like temper tantrums or not wanting to go to bed. Get information about her childhood and family. How did her parents discipline her? Ask how she's handled any problems in her previous employment experiences. Ask her if she has any questions for you.
Once you've selected the babysitter, try each other out a few times before you commit to each other (paid of course). Have the babysitter come over for a few hours to watch your child while youÆre home. Trust your instincts. If you don't feel that you can trust this person with your child, keep on looking.
