Description of Earth Day activity:
Collecting and preserving flowers and leaves with my children is an activity we really enjoy. I started taking them on nature hikes at ages 5 and 3 and now they know many trees' and flowers' names by sight. We make a game out of it by playing "I Spy": I spy a dogwood, I spy a poppy, I spy a weeping willow, etc. I also have them see how many different types of leaves and flowers they can find. After several years of doing this we have quite a collection. Link to Flower and Leaf Press to learn more about how to press and preserve flowers and leaves.
