Description of Easter celebration or activity:
Eggs are a symbol of New Life.
Hanging colorful eggs from a "twig" type tree is a cheerful way to welcome Spring!

Craft Stores may have exactly what you want, already made: the twig type tree with a sturdy base, and some eggs (in right proportion and weight) to hang from it.

Do-it-yourselfers can spend more time on this; it's a good Rainy Day activity.

Get some sturdy, attractive tree branches, some Plaster of Paris mix, and a container (a cute margarine tub may work well here!) Mix the Plaster of Paris according to the instructions on the package; if there are no instructions, add a little water at a time, and stir. The consistency should not be dough, but should not be soup, either...push the ends of the Branches into the Plaster before it hardens up too much! It may help to lean the branches lightly against a box, or wall, or other Support, to keep 'em upright, and you can use Tape to secure a branch tip or 2, if that'll help keep it upright while it drys. Keep out of reach of kids and pets, and it should set up fine.

Eggs: even the plastic kind that people Hide are fine, come in all sizes, and can be found in primary colors, neons, pastels, opalescent, iridescent...and styrofoam, for winding colorful Yarn around, or gluing fabric or gift wrap bits to. Some spray-on finish can make decoupage type ornaments more attractive.

Setting up and preparing for this celebration or activity:
If I have time to mess with it, I like to use Real Eggs, in a variety of ways. An adult has to take care of Blowing Out the egg contents.

The first step is to gently cleanse the egg(s) thoroughly with warm, soapy water. Use a clean ice pick or needle to form a small hole in the round end, and a small hole in the pointed end. A hole about 1/8 inch wide should do it--certainly, not much bigger. Poke the yolk with the ice pick or needle. Wipe n' cleanse the end of the egg again, and give it a steady Blow. You may sound like the Big Bad Wolf, but if the hole's large enough, soon the egg will end up in the Bowl (Oh yeah, don't forget the bowl! ;-) with a Plop. It takes some extra time to empty and clean eggs this way prior to making omelettes, quiche, or scrambled eggs, but the Cost of these eggs is so right!

Submerge each emptied egg in sudsy water; watch 'em bubble a bit as they fill with suds. Gently shake; wipe; blow 'em out into the sink. Repeat, until what's coming out is Clear. Put 'em in a bowl to air-dry. Save 'em until you have enough to work with, and allow Extras for those "oops!" moments.

We dyed some of our blown eggs last year. The coloring isn't totally Even, because they wanted to Float, but the shade variations are actually very appealing. Glitter Spray might be fun for older kids to try, w/supervision. Spray it outside, away from the house, on an un-windy day ;-)

We also covered some eggs with Tissue Paper snippets. Ours were primary brights; pastel would also be lovely! A packet of Assorted Colors of tissue makes a good choice, because a little goes a long way! The tissue was randomly snipped into a variety of shapes, and we each had a tray to work on. The glue we used for applying the tissue bits was Thinned somewhat, and applied with a brush. Overlapping tissue colors creates lovely effects!

(You may wish to Cover one of the holes in each egg. Decide whether your eggs are going to hang Round side up, or Pointed side up; Patch your eggs and hot-glue ribbons accordingly.)

When the glue and tissue coating is completely set up and dry, an extra application of thinned glue Protects and gives it a Shine (alternatively, they could be sprayed with a glaze).

If a bit o' "cool melt" hot glue is squirted around/in one egg opening, and a pre-cut ribbon Loop is inserted, it should adhere more easily than trying the same process w/liquid glue. (If Both ends were "patched", attach with a "blob" of melted glue. A bow, bit o' lace or floral material can hide that blob ;-)

Other suggestions or comments:
These Trees really do look best if they have that special Kid Touch that makes 'em unique!
