Description of Easter celebration or activity:
Eggs are decorated w/leaves and herbs creating a dye "resist" (white areas).
Setting up and preparing for this celebration or activity:
With a tiny paintbrush, apply egg white to the back of a leaf or sprig (clover is pretty, and it's a Weed! ;-)
Use tweezers to center this on the egg, and press down gently with your fingers.
Cut a nylon stocking into 5 inch segments. Tie one end shut w/string; put egg securely Inside; wrap securely, and wrap/tie the other 'end'.
Dip the egg(s) into prepared Easter egg dye.
Remove egg(s) when desired color is reached. Cut the nylon stocking open and carefully remove egg. Carefully peel away the leaf. Place leaf side up on paper towels, to dry completely.
Other suggestions or comments:
Hard-cooked eggs that will be eaten must be refrigerated as soon as possible.
Empty/'blown' eggs may be used. It's a messy process, though ;-) and the eggs will be Fragile.
Natural dyes can be made with stuff like onion skins, and red cabbage leaves, but the commonly sold Easter egg dyes are also lovely, and the kind of dye made with liquid food coloring is perfectly acceptable, too!
