Description of technique for dealing with temper tantrums:
I send my children to the bathroom for their time outs. I have done this since they were two years old. My pediatrician suggested this, as crazy as it sounds, but said it was a neutral territory and also said the child will almost never get into stuff while being timed out. All true, too. They may go in there to mess in the water at other times, but they have never done this during a time out....STRANGE BUT TRUE.
The time out is one minute for each year old they are. For my older child, time will start over if the door opens and I hear comments.
This is one of my favorite off-the-wall parenting techniques.
