Description of technique for dealing with temper tantrums:
Try to get your child more involved in helping you pick foods while in the grocery store. For example, have them help you smell lemons to see if fresh and then have them tell you one thing that is made with that fruit or food. If you're buying a melon, have them squeeze it with you to check for freshness. Getting your child involved and making it a game/learning experience will not only prevent trantrums, but will also make your child a savvy shopper like you!
