Description of technique for dealing with temper tantrums:
Birthday parties are great fun, especially when it's your own. But when the party is over, your child's tantrum can just begin.

Whether it's your child's birthday party or a friends, it's always a bummer when it's over. So you really have to try to keep some perspective. The kids are tired and overly excited from opening presents and running around, and they all have a sugar buzz from the ice cream and cake. The perfect recipe for a meltdown.

Give your child a fair warning: "We are going to leave after you've finished your ice cream." Be understanding and acknowledge their feelings: "I know that it's sad when the party is over, but now it is time to leave." Give them something to look forward to: "We are going to play with John again tomorrow," or "When we get home we can play your favorite game together."

Other suggestions or comments:
The "whys" of this type of tantrum:
Over stimulation and too much excitement.
Hunger and Tiredness.
Sugar, sugar, sugar.
Lack of attention (if it's a friends party).
