How does the tool work?
This is a basic daily schedule. I made one for each day of the week. I also have one for days in which our schedule has changes. I placed a table in a word document with 3 columns. One column is for the times, i. e. 9:00-9:30 a.m. The middle column lists the activity or thing to do, i. e., eat breakfast. The third column contains a picture downloaded from the internet which goes with the activity. To help with this, I have copied all of the pictures that I have used to another Word Document for future use.
What is the benefit to the user?
Academically, it helps the child understand the concept of time, which is Math related. It also helps the child to understand sequencing, i. e., what happens first, what happens next. It also allows for some flexibility, in that pictures and times can be changed. It also keeps you from always having to answer the question, "Mom, what are we going to do today?" or "Mom, what do I do next?" Your response can simply be, "Check the schedule!"
Other information to consider:
I am a first grade teacher with 5 ESL students in my class. I use this type of schedule in my class as well.
