Describe the best gift you ever received or gave:
All my life, the men in my family displayed great humor, and appreciated it in others. That's why books, tapes/cd's, and videos that tickle the funny bone are always appreciated, often to be saved and enjoyed again and again.
What made this gift extra-special?
Dads need a good laugh sometimes.
Other comments or suggestions:
Titles that have been given go back to the small paperbacks of Andy Capp, Beatle Bailey or Family Circus that I gave to my dad when I had to save my nickels and dimes to buy them, until more recently, when I'd heartily recommend: Dave Barry, Calvin and Hobbes, Baby Blues, Close to Home, Pickles, Foxtrot, LuAnn, and last but not least, For Better or Worse.
Moving back in time again: if you know of vintage stuff Dad likes, sometimes you can find it, but it's harder on short notice. I got 2 "Pogo" books a few years ago; pricey, but well worth it! If only Grandpa had been alive to give them to; he surely loved the daily comic strips the first time around.
Videos are a bit harder to choose. Save all receipts in case Dad already has what you lovingly chose! My husband bought himself a DVD player about a month ago, and somehow "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum" was my Mother's Day gift...I can spot a gift-getting Trend even before it happens 'round here...he can also be good about taking the youngest on a field trip for a day, and he makes a mean mother's day sandwich. Roses mean diddley-squat if the Love isn't a year-round thang...
