Describe the best gift you ever received or gave:
The best gift I ever gave my Dad was a video of the movie, "To Kill A Mockingbird." It was a "collector's edition" with additional footage and cast interviews.
What made this gift extra-special?
When I was growing up, my father and I would watch this movie (and countless others) together when it was on television. Every year I would sit amazed as my stoic Dad teared-up watching tough, little Scout and poor, misunderstood Boo Radley. The next time I visit, I'll suggest that we watch "To Kill A Mockingbird" together and finally get up the nerve to ask him why this film means so much to him -- if I'm not too choked up myself.
Other comments or suggestions:
What better way to get inside Dad's head than to watch and discuss a classic movie? For adult children of a certain age, Father's Day isn't just about celebrating our father the "dad" but also about appreciating our father the "man" -- who he is, how he sees the world, what he values most in life. Any activity that brings my Dad and I closer together is definitely a two-way gift.
