Describe the best gift you (as a mom) ever received or gave to your mother:
Last year, I wrote a "Letter Of Remembrance" for my mom. I wanted to remind her how important she has been in my life. There were memories of the first day of school and how scared I was to walk off with my teacher and leave her behind; the many dresses she made for me; the sensitivity she had for an awkward teenager who wanted to fit in with her peers; and so many more thoughts and memories I shared with her.
What made this gift extra-special?
By sharing my memories with her, I was able to convey my appreciation for so many things she had forgotten about. For instance, when I was in high school and other girls were chosen for homecoming court, she took me to J.C. Penney's and bought me a new dress.
I might add, we didn't shop there very often. Looking back, I know it was her way of telling me I was loved and accepted by her. It made a lasting impression on me. I wanted to let her know that her efforts on my behalf (as a mother) had a great impact on my life.
Other comments or suggestions:
Telling someone how much they have meant to you is a wonderful thing. You will never have to face the regretful thought "If only they knew how much I loved them." I know that if and when my mother is no longer with me, I will have the solace of knowing that I once told her what she meant to me.
