What made this gift extra-special?
When I was about 7 and my baby brother was 4, our dog, Corky, died. Corky was my mom's dog and she had him for 15 years. My little brother could not fully understand why my mom was so upset. So, in his own mind, he did what he thought would be right. We went out that Mother's Day and found her a new pet, a pet rock that is. He washed, painted, and presented the rock to my mother stating, "Muma, I got you a new pet...one that won't ever die and make you feel sad." Her expression was priceless. How could her little guy, at 4 years old, know exactly what she needed? Needless to say, the 5 pound rock is still in our family and is one of my mom's most treasured gifts. It resides on display on a book case in the family room.
