Sharing is a vital social concept that every child must eventually learn. By treating your child with respect and speaking to him or her in a reasonable fashion, you will be able to explain to your child why sharing is important. Start with the difficult concept of sharing toys with other kids.1. This is a new concept for your child and you need to teach him or her that sharing is a nice thing to do.
2. When your child has a friend over, make sure that you have a variety of toys to choose from.
3. If another child wants your child? toy, don? just give the toy to that child.
4. Step in and mediate the situation.
5. Begin by making an assessment. If your child is playing with a specific toy, suggest to the other child that he or she can have the toy in a few minutes when your child is finished.
6. If, however, your child is not playing with the toy, but doesn? want another child to play with it, calmly explain to your child that it is okay for the other child to play with the toy.
7. If the two children find themselves tugging at a toy, step in to see how the tugging began and who had the toy first. Next, explain that it is not okay to be fighting over toys. Help the children come to terms with taking turns.
8. Make sure that you are fair with all of the children. Don? assume that just because someone is a guest in your house that he or she has a right to bully your child.
9. Over time, as kids mature, sharing should become much easier.
10. Help your child and his or her friends to find the space to play both individually and cooperatively.
