Activity instructions or description of technique:
Hop Scotch is a fun game that challenges kids' abilities to balance on one leg, aim and toss into a square, and jump!
1. Start to build your hop scotch game by taking a piece of chalk and making a square. Draw a rectangle across the top of the square, and divide the rectangle in half to make two squares. When you're finished you should have three squares with two rectangles in between (each rectangle is divided to make two squares) leaving you 7 places to jump on.
2. Toss a stone (or any small object) onto the first square, and jump over the square to the second spot landing on two feet on the divided rectangle.
3. Hop on one foot where there is one square and two feet where there is a rectangle divided into two squares.
4. Kids should not jump on the square that they've tossed the stone onto.
5. This means they'll sometimes be hopping on one foot, sometimes jumping with two feet.
6. Your child? ability to move his or her body quickly through the course will enhance motor and thinking skills.
