Activity instructions or description of technique:
By having children imitate the movements of animals they can gain a better understanding of how their own bodies move and work in space. Have them get down on all fours and try!

1. Your child can have a lot of fun pretending to be a lion, baboon, frog etc.

2. Choose an animal to start with, ask your child to imitate how the animal sounds, e.g., roar like a lion, chirp like a bird, grunt like a baboon.

3. Add movements to the sounds. They can stretch out like a big cat or hop around like a frog.

4. Yell out an animal for your child to imitate.

5. Watch your child as he or she creates the sounds and movements of the animal.

6. Tell your child how good he or she looks and sounds.

7. Have your child freeze in that position.

8. Once your child is completely still, shout out another animal for him or her to become.

9. Continue this play for as long as you like.

10. Using this form of creative play gives your child an excellent workout while using the body as a form of expression.
