Preschool and Younger
Elementary School

Estimated time to complete activity or implement technique:
15-30 minutes.

Materials needed (if applicable):
chalk board
chalk
easel
paper
crayons
markers

Activity instructions or description of technique:
Every child loves to doodle. Try this fun exercise in your home to develop your child? hand-eye coordination while enhancing the flexibility and skillfulness of his or her vision.

1. For best results this exercise should be done standing up in front of a chalk board or easel (you can also tape a piece of paper onto a table if you don? have a board).

2. Give your child two pieces of chalk or two crayons or markers and ask him or her to start drawing large circles simultaneously with both hands.

3. Don? worry about making the shapes perfect. Just have them concentrate on creating big and little circles.

4. This exercises your child? upper arms and shoulders.

5. Once your child is comfortable with circles, have him or her move on to other designs.

6. Encourage your child to create movements going up, down and side to side.

7. For extended play, have your child put down the drawing tool to use elbows, wrists, feet etc., drawing imaginary pictures in the air.

8. This is a wonderful way to relax the tensions pent up in the body.

9. You might want to join in as it feels really good! You and your child can get really creative with this exercise and have lots of fun.
